2008 Alternatives Forum: Spotlight on In Ingredients
The requirements of the EU 7th Amendment to the Cosmetics Directive demand that safety data for cosmetic ingredients be generated using only non-animal methods. In addition, the European REACH program will rely heavily on non-animal methods to determine the hazards associated with new and existing chemicals. Both of these will impact U.S. companies as well as European. Spotlight on Ingredients is a 1 ½ day forum that will provide practical information on the requirements of the non-animal testing bans, activities by international organizations (e.g. ECVAM, COLIPA) to meet these requirements, testing strategies and how risk assessments are conducted using non-animal data. In addition, the Forum will offer a perspective from product formulators on what other useful data can be generated and how suppliers and manufacturers can work together to build effective programs. Speakers will include representatives from ECVAM, COLIPA, RIFM and industry. Organized by IIVS and the Alternatives Research & Development Foundation (ARDF), the meeting will be held at the Chemical Heritage Foundation in the heart of historic Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA; 23-24 October 2008. Registration and further details will be available soon at www.spotlightoningredients.com.
