The Short Time Exposure (STE) assay, developed by Kao Corporation (Japan), is an in vitro assay used to assess eye irritation potential of ingredients or final formulations. The assay was developed as an alternative to the traditional Draize test and has completed intra- and inter-laboratory validations. The STE assay could be utilized, like many in vitro assays, as part of a tiered testing strategy for determining the ocular irritation potential of unknown materials. A draft OECD test guideline (TG) is being prepared for the STE assay, and is proposed to undergo peer-review in 2013. This webinar will present information on the protocol and will discuss results from recent intra and inter-laboratory validation studies.
