The 16th Congress on Alternatives to Animal Testing, 13th Annual Congress of EUSAAT (European Society for Alternatives to Animal Testing) and 16th International Congress on In Vitro Toxicology will be held September 2-4, 2010 at the University of Linz in Austria. Please visit the congress website below for additional information.
This meeting will be held September 14-16th at the William H. Natcher Conference Center at the National Institutes of Health (NIH) in Bethesda MD. In recent years, efforts have increased to develop alternative methods that reduce, refine, and replace the use of animals for vaccine potency and safety testing. Scientific experts from government, industry, and academia will review the current state of the science including the availability and need for alternative methods. The link below contains additional information on the meeting and abstract submission.
Over 60% of drugs that fail during clinical development do so for reasons of safety. The cost implications of being able to accurately predict in vivo toxicity and pharmacokinetics are huge, including:
* Reduced attrition
* Improved pipeline planning
* Less time spent in animals
Overall, finding problems with drugs that would only otherwise be uncovered during expensive clinical phases. Please follow the link below for more information.
The objective of the workshop is to identify examples in reduction and refinement, that improve the quality of science and animal welfare, and that could be further disseminated and used more widely both within and across industry sectors.
The workshop will also make recommendations on future steps to be taken towards the implementation of reduction and refinement methods and strategies that could include opportunities for research in the area of refinement and reduction and/or coordination actions (consortia) that could be supported through public and/or private financing schemes. A forum designed to help scientists meet the challenges of non-animal testing requirements. Attendees will learn how to develop and refine their testing strategies to incorporate the use of
in vitro methods. The requirements in the European Union’s 7th Amendment to the Cosmetics Directive demand that safety data for cosmetic ingredients are generated using only non-animal methods.
In addition, the European chemical regulation REACH will rely heavily on non-animal methods to determine the hazards associated with new and existing chemicals.
IIVS is a non-profit science-based organization dedicated to the advancement of alternative testing methods. IIVS seeks to refine the science, broaden the use, and increase the acceptance of in vitro testing worldwide.
Since its founding in 1997, IIVS has worked with industry, academic laboratories, and government agencies to implement testing strategies that limit animal use while supplying key toxicological information.
Discounted Registration Extended Until September 15th!
